Rear Admiral Umar Chugali has assumed duty as the new Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Central Naval Command (CNC), Yenagoa.
The new FOC, Central Naval Command, Nigerian Navy shortly after assumption of duty has since pledge to build on his predecessor’s achievements in fighting maritime crimes.
National Wire reports that Chugali, took over from Rear Admiral Ibrahim Shettima, who was moved to the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, as Director of Plans.
Upon assumption of duty, Chugali, thanked God, while also commending the Chief of Naval Staff, for finding him worthy to take over leadership of the Central Naval Command.
He said that they he was ready to move the CNC forward with the help of the Officers, Ratings and Civilian Staff, respectively.
The new FOC, CNC promises to ensure that critical infrastructure were secured for the nation, stating that he would ensure that everybody is carried along, just as he noted that he would also improve on what he saw on ground.
He said: “The expectations from the CNC were hardwork, successes, as well as maintaining and surpassing what had been achieved so far.
“I urge those involved in illegal maritime activities to desist from them, turn a new leaf and go into legitimate business.”
In his valedictory remarks, the outgoing FOC, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Shettima commended the Officers and Ratings for the achievements recorded during his tenure in the command.
He said in order to rid the maritime domain of crime and criminality, a lot of arrest was made, saying that the criminals have no where to hide again.
Shettima, said that with the commitment and hard work of the Officers and Ratings of the CNC, they were able to locate 190 illegal refining site where illegality takes place and they were deactivated.
He explained that under his Command, that they were able to partner the Imo state Government, on the flag-off and pre-survey of Oguta lake connecting the Orachi River which is finally discharging to the Atlantic.
According to him, the Prachi River programme was an effort that was geared towards enhancing the economic well-being of the South Eastern part of the country and by extension Nigeria.
He commended the government and good people of Bayelsa State for their continued partnership and cooperation with the command.
