The Bayelsa State House of Assembly Saturday in a special sitting condemned the incessant redeployment of police commissioners posted to the state.
The House in a motion moved by the chairman, House committee on security and member representing Sagbamma constituency II, Hon. Sunday Bernard Kenebai unanimously resolved that the Inspector – General of police disregard calls by people to disband the state security outfit, operation Doo-Apko, describing such moves as baseless, saying they are from those behind the incessant redeployments of commissioners of police to the state.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the house sitting, the speaker Hon. Friday Konbowei Benson said the condemnation was necessitated by the recent continuous transfer in less than sixty days of no fewer than eight different police commissioners deployed to the state.
Benson while calling on the federal authorities in charge if policing the nation to prevail on the Inspector – General to desist from further redeployment of commissioners posted to the state without allowing them to master the security architecture of the state said these incessant transfers have caused the state the loss of lives and properties within the past two months.
According to the speaker, reports reaching the Assembly has it that these redeployment are linked to a former Governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva and the minister of state for Agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri who are bent on using the police to rig the 2019 general election in the state.
Other prayers contained in the motion includes; calling on Bayelsa members of the national Assembly to bring up the incessant transfers of the state police commissioners to their respective chambers. They also called on the state Government to intervene and that the Inspector – General should not politicize the postings and deployment of police officers and men to the state.
Also speaking, chairman House committee on information and member representing Sagbama constituency III, Hon. Salo Adi- Kumo condemned the handlers of the police posting, describing those behind as enemies of the state who are bent on destabilizing the peace and security the current administration of Governor Seriake Dickson has brought to bear in the state.
You would recall that in less than two months (60 days), the Nigerian police has deployed and redeployed eight different commissioners of police to Bayelsa state.
