What Happened Today (WHAT) (Tuesday, 8th March)

The day started on a tragic note as a five-storey building under construction collapsed around Chisco bus stop, Lekki, Lagos State, killing six people about 4:30am.

Nigeria today joined the rest of the world to mark the International Women’s Day 2016. Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Idiat Oluranti Adebule, made case to end gender discrimination against women in Nigeria.

South African President, Jacob Zuma visited Nigeria, promising to support the country to repatriate stolen fund kept in his country. He also promised his country’s support to help Nigeria in tourism, agriculture and power generation.

Zuma who also addressed the National Assembly, while the both nations reviewed over 30 bilateral agreement earlier signed between them over the years. Relationship between the two countries dates back to the liberation days of South Africa.

Still today, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions (EFCC), arraigned a former Minister of Niger Delta, Godsday Orubebe on a one count charge of false declaration of assets. The case has been adjourned till 4^th April 2016.

The government of Switzerland reportedly returned $32million allegedly stolen away to Switzerland by former dictator, the late Gen. Sani Abacha.

Also today, the abductor of 14 year old Ese Oruru, Yinusa, also known as Yellow, was arraigned in court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital. He pleaded not guilty and the case continues.
