Child Friendly Awards: AIT leads nomination Exercise of TV Category

Africa Independent Television (AIT) has led the pack of television stations at the recently organized nomination exercise ahead of the Nigerian Child Friendly Awards.
The nomination exercise was aimed at reducing the long list of television stations to a sizable figure ahead of the voting exercise to be flagged off soon.
Over 300 children delegates from various schools in Lagos and Ogun State participated in the exercise to nominate their favourite television stations during which AIT emerged with the highest vote scoring 87 votes.
Following AIT closely is ON TV with a total vote of 73 while other television stations shared the remaining votes. Other stations nominated at the exercise include Channels Television, TVC, NTA, MITV and LTV.
The award being organised by a Lagos based NGO, Nigerian Child Safety Report Initiative (NCSR) is aimed at promoting issues of children and enlightening the young citizens on their rights and positioning them for a future of responsibility.
President of the organisation, Wilson Ukhurebor told www.nationalwire.com.ng that “The children must be empowered and positioned for leadership in future. Most times Nigerian adults don’t mind the children and we often hear that today’s children are future leaders but these children are not given opportunities to express themselves,” he complained.
Ukhurebor continued that the plight of the children necessitated the introduction of the award. “To further contribute our quota and encourage the corporate world to invest more in children, this award in its maiden edition is aimed at making top brands in Nigeria do more for Nigerian children.”
Announcing the results in the TV category of the awards, Project Manager of the Awards, Mr. Tunde Jenmin said “The awards is all about the children, giving them a say and preparing them for the future. At the same time it is aimed at making the television stations as the category is concerned to create more educative programs for the children.”
Jenmi added that, “The result at the nomination has revealed that the children have nominated those stations they are familiar with due to their contents. There are contents that naturally attract the children and these are what they easily relate with and that register on their young minds.”
The organisation however enjoins brands, including television stations to factor the children more into their programming for a better future population.
