The Quick Response Team of the Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft has successfully Intercepted 127 bags of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa at Eleko Beach, Lekki and Badagry on Friday 17, November 2023.
No arrest was made as the criminals, upon sighting the team, abandoned the narcotics and fled.
Disclosing the arrest on Saturday, the Commander, NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga stated that his Quick Respond Team acted on credible Intelligence, as they swiftly responded, leading to the confiscation of 113 bags of Cannabis Sativa at the beach.
As a result, the commendable effort was further extended along the Badagry route, resulting in the arrest of additional 14 bags bringing the total number of seized contraband items to 127 bags.
However, the Base Information Officer NNS Beecroft, Apapa, Sub-Lieutenant Happiness Collins in a statement further disclosed that the seized narcotics would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for necessary action.
“This successful arrests underscore the Nigerian Navy’s dedication under the leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla to combatting illicit drug trafficking and preserving the well-being of the Nigerians,” the statement added.
