NMGS Inaugurates Bayelsa Chapter’s Pioneer Exco

The Nigerian Mining And Geosciences Society(NMGS), Bayelsa State Chapter has been inaugurated.

Performing the Inauguration ceremony in Yenagoa, the state capital recently, National President of the NMGS, Professor Akinlade Olatunji called on the pioneer Executives to work as a team, while also urging them to uphold the tenets of the profession in carrying out their duties.

This was just as he advocated for a separate agency or ministry to oversee the activities of miners in the country, noting that there were lot of advantages in bringing together professionals in the field under the same umbrella with same organisational structure and different compartments in similar structure.

He added that when all that are scattered over the mining industry were brought together, the nation is able to maximize the benefits of geosciences.

Delivering the Inaugural Lecture titled: “Flood Mitigation Strategies In Bayelsa State: Opportunities In Exploration Of Natural Resources In Bayelsa State”, Emeritus Professor, Winston Bell-gan stated that NMGS comprises professionals in geosciences that can proffer the needed solutions to the management of the geoscience sector in the state.

He commended the Bayelsa State. Government for taken proactive measures to mitigate the unending flood ravaging the state, urging the Government to seek collaboration with international agencies and the Federal Government to combat the perennial flood disaster ravaging the state.

Bell-gan advised the Bayelsa State Government to ensure that funds released for flood disasters were property utilized in order to assuage the adverse effect on the people..

In his acceptance speech on behalf of the new executives, the pioneer Bayelsa Chapter Chairman, Rotarian Sylvanus Esinkumo Sikpi said they will work together to identify the problems in the mining sector and collaborate with the state government and other critical stakeholders so as to bring solutions to the challenges and make the State chapter better.

He noted that Bayelsa is a riverine state with peculiar challenges in the mining sector that requires expertise to surmount.

Those Inaugurated as executives include, Dr. Kemebigha Keme-ebi, Vice Chairman and Organizing Secretary, Mr. Agazi Destiny, Secretary, Mrs. Favour Bobowei, Mrs. Ineife Owofobi, Dr. David Amanawa.

Others include Dr. Alfred, Mrs. Tokoni Promise Efidi, Mr. Okumbiri Power amongst others.
