…Holds Second Matriculation At Aleibiri Thursday
Management of the Bayelsa State government own polytechnic, Aleibiri have said, the institution have commenced admissions into Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.
Speaking with Journalists on Friday at the institution’s temporary site Elebele, Ogbia Local Government Area of the State, Rector of the polytechnic, Chief Wisdom Soreh noted that the national board on technical education (NBTE), during its 2022 accreditation visit approved and granted the institution interim accreditation to run higher national diploma programmes in Computer science, Statistics and accounting, respectively.
He said: ”The national board on technical education(NBTE) on its visit to the institution in 2022 approved and granted interim accreditation to the school to run three HND programmes in Accounting, Statistics and Computer Science.
“The NBTE has also informed the Polytechnics of unbundling the HND Computer Science programme into four specialization areas of HND, Cyber Security, Artificial intelligence, Networks and Cloud Computing technology, and HND in Software and web development.
“So, the Bayelsa State Polytechnic, Aleibiri is ready to run HND, Artificial intelligence, HND, Cyber Security, HND, Networks and Cloud Computing technology and HND, software and web Development in 2023/2024 academic session.
“Preparations are at advanced stages to ensure admissions into these specialization areas begin in the 2023/2024 academic year, while acknowledging the dearth of manpower in some specialization areas as we’re poised to take advantage of the unbundling to bring computer technology closer to the people.
“As an institution We’ld make sure that we work together with all relevant stakeholders and the state government to get full accreditation for these programmes on or before the students runninging HND get to their HND two second semester to pave the way for enlistment for the national Youths Service Corps(NYSC) without hindrance”.
Meanwhile, the Rector of the institution has emphasized that the most paramount issue before him and the entire management of the school is relocating the polytechnic from its present temporary site, Elebele, Ogbia council area to Aleibiri town in the Ekeremor council area of the state at most by the first quarter of 2024.
He stated that upon his assumption of office last year, the institution which prior to his appointment as rector was unable to access the TETFUND physical infrastructure and programme upgrade components of the intervention funds is now able to access same.
Chief Soreh further added: “TETFUND has since started a number of projects in addition to some state-provided old infrastructural projects which are undergoing restructuring and maintianace in the permanent site campus of the institution, Aleibiri.
”Once completed, these projects would enable the school to vacate its temporary site for its main campus at Aleibiri soon.
“We’ld be holding our second combined matriculation next week at Aleibiri, our permanent site. We currently run six national diploma (ND) programmes with full accreditation, but as we progress, through the approval of the NBTE We’ld run more ND, just as we’ld also be adding more HND and certificate programmes to our array of courses and programmes as a polytechnic.
“We’re mindful of our peculiar circumstances with youths restivenes, and would continue to mount live changing programmes to mop up restive youths for productive engagements.”
