Vehicle owners Thursday morning at the Ota end of Lagos-Abeokuta express way are now counting their losses after a late night tanker fire destroyed vehicles and business premises late Wednesday.
The incident which occurred around Ilo Awela hill immediately after the toll gate has distressed the road and owners of affected vehicles.
Commuters on Thursday morning commented on the incident with fear. “We got to the toll gate this morning on our way to Lagos and we saw the massive destruction on both sides of the road, bad road must have caused the tanker to go up in flames,” Aderoju Philemon, a road user said.
Meanwhile, none of the media channels picked the news which could have passed the information to the concerned authorities but Twitter users were on ground with the videos.
An angry Twitter user @youngherbay earlier twitted at the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun: “@dabiodunMFR are u aware of the fire outbreak at toll gate Sango Otta today. Trailers go through one way because of the bad road leading to Abeokuta. So many have been lost to toll during ur tenure. You won’t be reelected by God’s grace,” protesting the bad state of the road which may have led to the accident.
Many more Nigerians are calling on the government to step up infrastructural development to forestall avoidable loss of lives and properties which are now regular experiences.
