Residents Of Troubled Communities In Niger Flee Over Incessant Bandits’ Attacks

Uneasy calm now reigns in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, against the backdrops of renewed attacks by armed bandits, as people in some of the security-risks communities in the Local Government and it’s environs were said to have run for dear lives a from their places of abode .

The people, mostly Women and some of their husbands were seen in conjunction with their little children in their numbers with household materials , mostly clothes, cooking utensils, good stuffs and buckets on their heads entering Tegina, an outskirts of Kagara the Headquarters of Rafi Local Government Council neighbouring community.

They bemoaned the regular attacks unleashed by bandits on their communities as well as other parts of the State, apparently as a result of inaction by the State Government to come to their rescues over their precarious conditions

The affected communities include Rafi-Doko, Yakila, Katako and other neighbouring communities in the council area of the State.It could however be recalled that in the past few weeks, more than five persons were allegedly killed, 20 persons kidnapped and many others injured along with several food items and properties destroyed by bandits in Rafi Local Government Area of the State .

Some residents of Tegina said the fleeing villagers were asking from the State Government for a place to set up an Internally Displaced Persons Camps where they can take refuge pending when the security situation improves in their respective communities.

National Wires gathered that critical stakeholders were at the moment holding meetings over the security situation in the affected areas and how to tackle the security challenges.Confirming the dicident , the Director-General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Inga, said residents of the affected areas were fleeing from their communities for safety.

He explained that steps were being taken by the State Government to ensure that the people have succour from the constant attacks by bandits.
