Niger Assembly Member Appeals To FGN To Urgently Create Ministry For HYPADEC

An appeal has been made to the Federal Government to urgently create Ministry for Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC)with the view to address the challenges bedevilling people of affected communities.

Chairman Niger state House of Assembly Committee on Rules and Business and the Chairman Ad-hoc Committee on HYPPADEC Hon. Abdullahi Shaba Gbara made the appeal while addressing Journalists in Minna.

Hon. Abdullahi Shaba explained that this is the only way through which people from Six States of Plateau, Kebbi, Niger Kwara, Kogi and Benue could be relieved of negative impacts associated with annual flooding coupled with other numerous problems confronting them.

On the names of Managing Director HYPPADEC as well as Chairman Governing Council and it’s members forwarded to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari for confirmation he appealed to them to expedite action in ensuring speedy confirmation.

The State Legislatures who frowned at ceeding the chairmanship position to another State instead of Niger State despite it’s contributions to Nigerian economy would also wants Niger state to be given two board members.

He said this is because Niger State is housing the three hydro power dams of Kianji, Jebba and Shiroro, yet it was the worst hit by negative effect of such dams.

Hon Abdullahi Shaba however commended efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari, Governnor Abubakar Sani Bello, SSG, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane , the Traditional Institutions, as well as members of National and State Assemblies including critical stakeholders for their contributions in reaching this far and called for more to succeed.
